TESOL and TEFL Teaching Practice
Although our TESOL and TEFL training courses are by distance learning, there are opportunities for observed teaching practice during or after your distance study course.
ETC is now working in association with Terry Whitnell of TLC (The Language Centre), Gran Canaria, who will provide suitable TESOL / TEFL teaching opportunities, give guidance on lesson preparation, observe your teaching, and provide you with helpful feedback, encouragement and suggestions for development.
The intensive practical component will be a minimum of two weeks (75 hours). The following are covered through a series of workshops, seminars and other modes of input as appropriate.
- Practical Components. The OHP and magnetic board. Interactive whiteboard. Practical phonetics workshops. Grammar workshops. Teaching practice preparation. Powerpoint presentations.
- Classroom Techniques. Effective chalk/white board work. The cassette/CD Recorder/player and its effective use. Skills development. Classroom management skills. Task-based classroom activities.
- Teaching Practice and Observation. Video observation and techniques of self-evaluation. Observation of classes, taught by qualified teachers. Peer teaching. Teaching practice with non-native speaker students.
Before arrival in Gran Canaria, videos of actual teaching practice, complete with notes and comprehensive worksheets are available if required for £15.
Special Offer on TESOL / TEFL teaching practice in Gran Canaria
A £100 reduction is currently being offered (by special arrangement with Terry Whitnell) so instead of the standard fee of £499 you would pay only £399.

The fee does not include travel or accommodation. Accommodation can be arranged by Terry and his staff or students can make their own arrangements. Accommodation should be arranged well in advance of the start date.
Currently, you can start your optional TESOL / TEFL teaching practice in Gran Canaria at any time but if numbers increase, it may be necessary to have fixed training dates.
Gran Canaria is the largest of the Canary Islands and about 4 hours flying time from London. It has an excellent climate all year round.
