The Teaching Practice Portfolio Scheme

Benefits of the scheme

The Teaching Practice Portfolio Scheme (TPPS) is an innovative approach to teaching practice. Through this scheme, you can choose to do teaching practice following your TEFL / TESOL course. This scheme makes it possible for teachers with our certificate to obtain a Teaching Practice Certificate at the end of their programme.

Teaching practice cannot be a requirement of our TEFL / TESOL course because we offer it by distance learning. However, if you wish to, there are ways in which teaching practice is possible. For anyone without teaching experience, it is possible to do teaching practice abroad or in the UK through the completion of a Teaching Practice Portfolio. The institution where it's done may be the school / college where you are currently teaching, or it may be an institution nearby which you have approached for assistance. The time it takes to complete the teaching practice will depend on the arrangements you make with the school or college.

The Teaching Practice Scheme

The ACTDEC fee of £95 (€106 $146) covers:

  • registration
  • administration of the scheme
  • monitoring of the programme
  • review and approval of submitted lesson plans
  • award of the teaching practice development certificate.

The Teaching Practice Development Scheme requires you to plan and teach 6 classes (minimum 45 minutes each) which are observed by an appropriately trained senior member of staff.

Any school can act as a centre for teaching practice providing it employs senior teachers holding recognised TESOL/TEFL certificates or diplomas.
