Tefl / Tesol Teaching Practice

Teaching practice is not a requirement of our Tefl / Tesol courses and you will receive your teaching certificate without having to complete a teaching practice element. However, if you wish to, you can have observed teaching practice while you study for your certificate, or after you have received it.

ETC now offers two ways for Tefl / Tesol distance learning trainees to gain practical teaching experience and for it to be assessed, as encouraqed by the British Council.

ETC is now working in association with Terry Whitnell of TLC (The Language Centre), Gran Canaria, who will provide suitable Tefl / Tesol teaching practice opportunities, give guidance on lesson preparation, observe your teaching, and provide you with helpful feedback, encouragement and suggestions for development.

Secondly, you can now gain valuable teaching experience by undertaking a teaching development programme abroad or in the UK through the completion of a Teaching Practice Portfolio maintained by you and a teaching institution. This institution may be the place where you are teaching, or it may be an institution near where you live that you have approached for assistance. It will normally take between six and eight weeks to complete the portfolio.

The Teaching Practice Portfolio Scheme (TPPS) is an innovative approach to teaching practice which can be done in cooperation with ACTDEC. Through this scheme, you can choose to do teaching practice either during or following your Tefl / Tesol certificate course. This scheme makes it possible for teachers with our Tefl / Tesol Certificate to obtain an ACTDEC Certificate of Teaching Practice Development at the end of the programme.
